The Labrador Duck was considered a sea duck know only to have existed in North America. The last known sighting was in New York in 1878 (almost 150 years ago). There are a few rare skins of specimens on display in museums, one of which is in the United States National Museum in Washington D.C.

Very limited information exists regarding these birds, so this painting was created out of Scot’s artistic interpretation of what is available.
